Lake Thun and Lake Brienz
Unterseen lies in the heart of the Bödeli, the fertile alluvial plain between two of the most striking lakes in the Alps. From Freihofstrasse you are free to choose which lake to fold into the end of the day:
Lake Thun, to the west
In less than ten minutes you roll by bicycle along quiet side paths and through the Weissenau nature reserve straight to the Strandbad Neuhaus. Here the view opens across the deep blue of the lake to the distinctive flanks of the Niesen and the Stockhorn. It is the ground for sailors, windsurfers and stand-up paddlers — or for a glass of wine at the lakeside restaurant while the setting sun warms the peaks with Alpenglow.
Lake Brienz, to the east
Only a few minutes by bicycle or train in the other direction lies Lake Brienz. Framed by steep, almost fjord-like rock walls, it fascinates with its deep emerald green and its untouched bays. A trip on the historic paddle steamer «Lötschberg», or a swim on a sunny Sunday morning, feels like a lasting holiday just outside the front door.
