Historic centre of Unterseen

Step out of Freihofstrasse 18 onto the street and it is barely a two-minute walk to the Stadthausplatz — the lively, yet always unhurried heart of Unterseen. Founded in 1279, the little town has an atmosphere entirely of its own, almost intimate, and noticeably apart from the international bustle of neighbouring Interlaken. Cobbled lanes, historic timber façades with finely carved arcades, and the distinctive late-Gothic church tower with its red clock faces, bright from far away, give the centre a timeless dignity.

Living here means being part of a real village community. You know the baker’s face, greet neighbours on the way to the post office, and pause for a short chat at one of the flower-decked fountains. Freihofstrasse benefits from a particularly fine position: close enough to the centre to enjoy the old town to the full, with its small shops and cafés, and set back enough that a deep, restful quiet settles in the evening — quiet enough to sleep with the window open.
